Join the Family!

I once believed that I was called to be a missionary, and even went to Guyanna and Brazil with a missionary.  That is where I met my beautiful wife, but thats another story.  I was hungry to see practical, real, concrete, life changing Christianity that made a difference and I had not seen that in the local churches I had attended, so I though I must be called to missions instead of the local church.  I thank God that I found just that sort of ministry at Christ's Church and that is why I support this ministry!  Lets get real together as a people and change our city, county and state through the Kingdom of God!

Get into the Habit of Friendship!  Life Groups are an excellent way to make friends and become discipled.  In fact this is the way that the new testament church spread throughout the world.  They met in homes and discussed the teachings of Christ with their friends and family.  In general Christ's Church Life Groups follow the format of 20 minutes of light food and fun fellowship.  Then 20 minutes of teaching done by Bishop Hanchey on DVD, and then 20 minutes of group discussion with prayer at the end.  Bishop is doing fantastic series of teachings that you can only get in Life Groups, so what are you waiting for sign up today, and we will give you a call with who is meeting in your area!

    Addiction Recovery

Jesus came that we might have life more abundant. An integral part of Christ’s ministry was delivering those oppressed by sin and every kind of evil. Not only can Jesus heal sickness of the body, but he can break the chains of sin. No matter how terrible a situation is, it is never without hope. Although there is power to be delivered from every kind of addiction and bondage, there is a price to be paid. The first step toward deliverance is repentance from sin and acceptance of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. The second step is to submit your life to following him and developing the habits that will sustain a life of freedom and joy. Dying to Live is a ministry that will enable the development and sustainability of a lifelong walk with the Lord in total freedom.

Dying to Live offers classes that meet on Mondays and Thursdays that include the 12 steps, anger management, personal growth, marriage and many more.   Each participant will be assigned a sponsor that will help in the process of forming healthy relationships that are foundational for living a delivered lifestyle.

    Youth

The name 180 Student Ministries comes from the need for a change of direction in the current generation of young people today.  Bullying, drugs, casual sex, and the poverty mentality is destroying our youth. Jesus Christ gives young people the reason to change their direction and the power to answer the challenges we are facing today.

180 reaches young people ranging from middle school to college through radical prayer, evangelism, and discipleship.

The vision of 180 is focused on our schools and our communities.  Our plan is to start 180 Student Ministry Clubs in all of the schools in Laurel and Jones County. As student based service clubs we hope to work with and support teachers and administrators to mold our generation for the future.

Our mission is to reach all of the young people of our area with the gospel of Jesus Christ and to see them delivered at the Cross and discipled into their God given destinies.

    Kids

Kids in Action is the children’s ministry of Christ’s Church of Laurel. Our vision is to provide a safe, fun atmosphere where solid biblical truths are presented and children can experience the love and freedom found through a genuine relationship with Jesus Christ.

Kids in Action Zone services consist of a high-energy corporate service followed by “life groups” divided by grade. In the small-group setting, children can connect with other kids their own age to discuss and learn how to apply the truths taught in the Kids in Action service. We also offer Kids in Action Encounter retreats, family activities, and other Kids in Action events several times throughout the year.

    Nursery

Christ's Church nursery and preschool exist with the same goals and heart as Christ's Church. We want to minister to children while they are in our care and present the message of the Gospel to them at a young age. As a child grows in our nursery, we want to focus on the foundations of faith, which will last them a lifetime.  As each child moves from class to class within our nursery and preschool, they will be nurtured, provided boundaries, taught the Word of God, and given an opportunity to respond to the message they have heard.

We are a “well” nursery.  This means that we proactively look for signs of illness before allowing children into our classrooms.  Anyone who works within our nursery has undergone a background check.

    Encounter Retreats

    What is an Encounter?

We believe that the first step in becoming a disciple is to be “free indeed.” Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (John 8:31-32 NIV).

An Encounter Retreat is a weekend short course in freedom - freedom from habits, bondages, bitterness, wrong thoughts, and past mistakes. At the Encounter, the Lord will set you free through the power of the cross.

    Who will be there?

Each Encounter is led by the senior ministry of Christ’s Church with a group of trained assistants. Encounters are currently held for adults as well as 180 Student Ministries, with Kids in Action encounters planned to start soon.

Where is the Encounter Retreat held?

Most Christ’s Church Encounters are now held at Paul B. Johnson state park on the shores of Geiger Lake. Participants will be informed in advance concerning the exact location for their specific retreat.

What is the schedule for the Encounter?

Encounters generally run from a Friday evening until noon the following Sunday. Participants arrive at the designated retreat location by 6:00 p.m. Friday for registration, room assignments (if applicable), and the opening session and activities. Sessions continue throughout Saturday until around 6:00 p.m.  Participants return home Saturday night and the final sessions are held Sunday morning at Christ’s Church beginning at 9:15 and end with the Sunday message.

Do you ever have Couples Encounters?

Yes! Each Couples Encounter follows the same schedule as our other Encounters though the teaching is different.  Couples Encounters will be announced as they are scheduled.

Participants are advised in advance as to the exact itinerary of their retreat.

    New Here

    Welcome to Christ’s Church

Christ’s Church was started in January of 2000 in a small house in Laurel, Mississippi. We are a church that is rich in godly purpose and was started because God sent a man with a vision to build a multi-racial, grace preaching, and spirit filled church in Laurel.  The vision has been made real and is growing as Bishop Charles Hanchey leads Christ’s Church to do what so many said was impossible.   With a house full of people of every color and background, Christ’s Church truly looks like the city it is in and the Heaven it serves.  It is in our hearts to “Reach for those that no one wants, and to see God make them into those that everyone wants!”  With that vision in mind, we are moving full steam ahead with excitement of what God is doing through our local church. The move of God that is happening here is something you must experience!

    What to Expect

We believe that church should be a place that is full of life, excitement, and the transforming presence of God.  When you visit, you will experience just that.  Our worship is high energy and passionate; we teach from the Bible in a powerful but practical way; and we love others compassionately.  Every week hundreds of people are finding hope and encountering new life during our weekend experiences.  From the quality nursery and fun-filled children’s service to the relevant, inspiring teachings, there is something for everyone!  Most importantly, you’ll experience the presence of God.

But rather than let us tell you about it, come check it out for yourself!  Visit Christ’s Church and see what we’re all about!

    Meet Bishop Hanchey

Bishop Charles Hanchey founded Christ’s Church in January of 2000, making him the overseer of the vision God called him to build.  He was miraculously healed of cancer at age nine and was gloriously saved while running night clubs in Houston, Texas, at the age of 28.  He closed his clubs and moved home to Louisiana, financially broke, but rich in his love and passion for God.  Totally sold out to Jesus Christ, he became a servant and student to his Pastor and was soon evangelizing in several states.

His ministry has included two years of missionary work in the Philippines and the building of nine churches.  He had been in full-time ministry for 30 years when he founded Christ’s Church.  Bishop Hanchey’s heart has always been for the lost and those whom other people would not want.  Discarding religious traditions of segregated church and showcase Christianity, Bishop Hanchey has reached for the people whom no one wanted, and God has been transforming them into the people whom everyone would want!

With a heart to pour into the young developing ministry, Bishop Hanchey has been leading the church with fresh vision, excitement, passion, and creative ideas to win Laurel and its surrounding areas for Christ. His heart to see lives transformed by the power of God and to see people experience new life in Christ is the bedrock of the practical Christianity he preaches.

A man of great integrity, Bishop Hanchey has been leading in full-time ministry for over 40 years, now.  In February of 1996, Bishop Hanchey and his wife, First Lady Doris, were married.  Their strong marriage and Ms. Doris’ Godly character are inspirations to the people they love and lead.

    Next: What We Believe

    ____________________________________________________

The Affirmation of Faith shall be:

We affirm that there is one God, infinitely perfect and eternally existent in the persons of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

We affirm the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, His virgin birth, His sinless life, His miracles, His vicarious atoning death through his shed blood, His bodily resurrection, His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and his personal return in power and glory.

We affirm the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a Godly life. We affirm that the Holy Spirit provides one or more spiritual gifts to all believers, manifesting them as He wills. We affirm that all of the gifts of the Holy Spirit are operative today.

We affirm the Bible to be the Holy-Spirit-inspired, authoritative Word of God and that it is eternally reliable.

We affirm that salvation is by grace through faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.

We affirm the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; those whom are saved to the resurrection of life and those whom are lost unto the resurrection of damnation.

We affirm the one universal Church, which is the Body of Christ. We affirm Christ as its head. We affirm all that are born again as its members. We affirm the church’s purpose as offering worship to God, fellowship, ministry and instruction to itself, and evangelism and service to the world. We affirm the ministries of Ephesians 4 (Apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers). We affirm the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ.

We affirm believer’s water baptism by immersion in obedience to our Lord Jesus Christ. We affirm the importance of regular participation at the divinely instituted Table of our Lord.

We affirm the ministry and presence of angels and the reality of the devils and demonic forces.

We affirm the sanctity of human life and that life begins at the moment of conception.

We affirm chastity for Christian single men and women, and we affirm the sacredness of Christian marriage. We define marriage as a union between one man and one woman.

We affirm that the “stripes” placed upon Jesus Christ at his crucifixion provide physical healing to all who will believe and receive.

He has an apostolic call on life, and he has established several churches in the United States and Southeast Asia. He has ministered in campmeetings, conferences, and seminars across the U.S. and Canada. You will be pleased as he ministers the Word of God with accuracy and anointing. His wit and humor add a unique and pleasing touch to his ministry.

You will find our first lady, Doris Hanchey, to be a powerful Christian leader exhibiting a meek and quiet spirit. The results of her wisdom and influence can be seen throughout Christ's Church. The example she sets as a wife and a dedicated Christian woman has a powerful impact on the ladies that she leads.
